Caylee
Wells
Chicago Flutist and Teacher
ABOUT CAYLEE
Caylee Wells has been playing the flute for 25+ years. She received her Masters Degree in Flute Performance in 2011 and has been teaching music to students at all levels from infants to the elderly for over 15 years.
Caylee’s teaching style blends standard classical flute studies with a current and modern application to flute playing as well as experimental teaching approach to musicality, ear training, and improvisation. Caylee combines these approaches with each student to help them reach their personal goals and become a more adapted and flexible musician as a whole.
Caylee has been living in Chicago with her husband Daniel and her cat Rosie since 2018. She enjoys utilizing her background in classical flute and pushing the limits of the traditional flute sound and technique into new territories. She is inspired when collaborating and experimenting with others while seeking influence from multiple musical genres. Some of her favorite influences include traditional afro/latin rhythms, house and electronic music, psychedelic/progressive folk and acoustic music, 90’s rock, and funk/jazz/improv, to name a few. More recently, Caylee was invited to collaborate with Chicago’s own DJ Gloria, featuring live improvisational flute sounds blended with 90’s house, pop and latin music DJ set.
Caylee is a member of two local bands. Caylee plays flute with the band Periwink, who features dreamy improvisational sounds with a vintage feel. Periwink takes unique approaches to cover songs and original tunes and creates an atmospheric vibe wherever they go.
Caylee recently joined the Emily Chloe Quinn Ensembl, a “Baroque-Pop” musical group based in Chicago and the surrounding areas, formerly known as the Emily Chloe Quinn Quartet which formed in late 2022. Members of the new iteration of the ensemble, formed in Spring, 2024 include singer-songwriter Emily Chloe Quinn on voice, piano/keys, Paul Vincent on Bass and backing vocals, Caylee Wells on flute and Tom “Tubs” Jasek on drums/percussion. They perform in Chicago, Kankakee, and surrounding areas, and plan to record a full album when the timing is right. The songs feature prominent arpeggios, with heavy piano, mellotron, and flute, with a modern spin on a classic, but stilted, Baroque-infused style, with pointed story-like lyrics, and infectious melodies that stick.
